MUTNOVSKY VOLCANO CLIMB (1 DAY)

Mutnovskiy Volcano is one of the most active volcanoes of Kamchatka. Due to its unusual shape any person can climb up to the crater and observe all the action: fumaroles, steam emissions, mud pots, etc. Magnificent volcanic landscape leaves a long-lasting impression on every participant of the tour.

The Mutnovskiy volcanic array is formed by four cones of a stratovolcano. The eastern part of Mutnovskiy array is a cone-in-cone structure volcano and the northern part of it which has a young volcanic cone is partly destroyed. The active funnel is embedded in the western edge of the main crater of the Mutnovskiy volcano. The funnel has an oval shape measuring approximately 440 x 100 meters and 180 meters deep.

Tour Timetable:

07:00 Departing the “Petropavlovsk” hotel towards the volcanic plateau in the vicinity of the Mutnovskiy Volcano (duration: 4 hours). During our road trip there will be a stop at the top of the Vilyuchinskiy pass with a chance to see the breathtaking view of Vilyuchinskiy Volcano as well as magnificent and panoramic view of Paratunka River Valley, Mutnovskiy and Goreliy Volcanoes. 

12:30 Lunch (tea/coffee, sandwiches and sweets) Climbing preparation and equipment check.

14:00 Volcano climb. Mutnovskiy volcano fascinates tourists all over the world. Unlike other volcanoes, the ascent to the top passes through a split in the volcano itself which is an extraordinary and unforgettable experience. The volcano’s crater is one of the most interesting aspects of the tour. One can see small mud volcanoes, acid pools, hissing fumaroles, surrounded by bright yellow collars of sulfur crystals, hot bubbling mud pots, boiling lakes and small geysers. All of this exceptional exotic surrounded by cliffs and hanging blue glacier –  bubbles, hisses, spits hot splashes producing clouds of steam and hydrogen sulfide.

17:00 Returning to the car. Dinner.

19:30 Departing back towards the city.

21:30 Arriving at the “Petropavlovsk” hotel.

  • Backpack (10 liters) for personal belongings;
  • Trekking footwear;
  • Wind jacket, hat (e.g. beanie) or cap;
