Avachinskiy volcano, also known as Avachinskaya Sopka or “Avacha” among Kamchatka residents, is an active volcano. The volcano used to be nearly twice the size than it is now, when a violent eruption in ancient past, reduced the volcano to almost half its original size, to what it is now and a new active cone with beautiful contours stood up from the depths of the Earth. The remains of the old mountain can still be found at the base of the new volcano.
Here you can see the wonderful panorama of “domestic” volcanoes – Avachinskiy and Koryakskiy volcanoes. These giants are beautiful at any time of the year, especially in winter, when the slopes of the volcanoes become smooth and clean, and the peaks smoke against the clear blue sky, reminding you that Kamchatka is really the edge of ice and flames.
Our tour will take you up the Camel Mountain, while immersing you in the raw beauty and magic of winter landscapes of Kamchatka! Our instructors will give you a chance to personally steer the snowmobile during our ascent. The magnificent mountains are sure to leave a long lasting impression.
Tour program:
10:00 Group gathering next to the “Petropavlovsk” hotel, getting ready for departure;
10:15 Departing towards the base of Avachinskiy volcano;
11:00 Arrival, safety instructions. Tour commences;
15:00 Rest inside warm cabins. Hot tea/coffee, snacks.
Departing on our return trip to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy;
17:00 Arriving in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.
Tour price includes:
- Sled or snowmobile transport services as per the tour program;
- Services of the instructor guide;

Required equipment:
- Thermal underwear;
- Warm pants/ski suit; wool jumper with high collar that covers the neck;
- Warm winter shoes, snow/ski mask or Balaklava;
- 2-3 layer tight-fitting wind-proof head cover/hat and scarf;
- Gloves/mittens; sunglasses; protective cream against wind and frost;
- Photo video equipment.
