Starichkov Island is located in the southern part of Avacha bay, bounded by the Pacific Ocean. The total area of the island is only about half a km2. It is one-of-a-kind Island with a lot of bird colonies where sea birds are nesting and breeding. Such rare species of birds as red-faced cormorant, sooty guillemot and murrelet can be seen here. Starichkov Island is named after Murrelet bird. The name of a bird in Russian is “Starik”.
Tour timetable:
Boarding the vessel. The cruise commences with exploring the Tikhaya bay, Stanitskiy cape, Three Brothers rocks, Devil’s finger rocks, Zavoyko Island and so on.
During our sea trip you will see so-called “Stone zoo”: three distinctive cliffs in a shape of an elephant, a turtle and a hippo. Besides, there is a rather famous rock called Babushkin Kamen (meaning Grandmother’s stone). It resembles a face of an old woman with a shawl tied around her head.
Visiting Starichkov Island. Observing marine mammals and bird colonies. Fishing. Gear is provided to all participants. You will taste sea-urchins caught by a diver. Lunch is included. Returning to the pier.
